Beans

What size container should you use?
1-3 plants in an 8 inch container
8-10 plants in a 2 foot window box
8 plants in a 12 inch container
6 plants in a 10 inch container

Which are the best varieties to grow?
I wasn’t that impressed with the results this year. I used earthworm castings as fertilizer and noticed a big difference in the color of the plants over previous attempts. It takes a lot of plants to get a good yield.

These are some of the varieties that I grew:
Besweet 2020 Soybeans-I might try these again in the future. I did get some.
Contender Green Beans-If a drop of water got on the leaves they immediately turned brown. I won’t be growing them again.
Black Eyed Peas-The insects went crazy for this one!

What I might grow again:
Provider Green Beans-I only had one plant, but these beans were better than Contender.
Royal Purple Burghundy-Insects leave this one alone. It turns green when you cook it.

Should you use inoculant?
Most gardening supply catalogs sell inoculant for beans (not soybeans) to use at the time of planting. It’s supposed to increase the yield. I used it one year. Since I didn’t notice a difference, I never used it again.
