Tomatoes

What size container should you use?
You need at least a 12 inch container for one regular tomato plant.
Patio varieties can be grown in a 10 inch pot.
There are some dwarf varieties that will grow in a 6 inch pot.

Which are the best varieties to grow?
Cherry tomatoes do best. My balcony does not receive full sunlight. I tried Sweet Chelsea this year. It is a hybrid that is resistant to every known disease. It did very well, but the tomatoes did not taste sweet.

Tiny Tim is a dwarf variety that grows in a 6 inch pot. That did very well. I would like to try Red Robin next year. The tomatoes are supposed to be sweet and everyone seems to rave about it.

The world’s smallest tomato is called Micro Tom. I’ve grown it two years in a row in a 4 inch pot. The tomatoes are small and the plant is dependable. Great for windowsills and small spaces.

Totally Tomatoes and Tomato Growers.com sell every kind of tomato seed that you can imagine.
