Growing Flowers

I tried three types of flowers this summer to see which one would survive the heat. Below are the results:

Marigolds-These won the contest. They bloomed all summer and well into the fall. I’ll be planting many more of these next year. I’ve heard that marigolds attract aphids so it’s best to plant petunias and herbs next to them.

Petunias-These took the number two spot. They just keep on blooming.

Nasturtiums-I’m not sure what happened to my Nasturtiums. I planted Alaska since it has green and white streaked leaves. I was experimenting with adding Epsom salt to the potting mix and it may have killed them. They did bloom and the nice thing is that you can plant Nasturtiums in cold weather, the same time as you would plant peas.

Nasturtiums are also edible and can be thrown into salads. You have to grow the ones from the "Gem" series, such as Golden Gem.
